Moon & Sun Hatha Yoga Course

This course is a meeting between you and your nervous system.

We have heard about the “rest and digest” and the “fight or flight”, in other words about the parasympathetic and the sympathetic nervous system. Mostly emphasis is placed on the parasympathetic state.

But truth be told, we need both. And to be a more complete version of yourself, it’s good to know both sides of your nervous system and apply them accordingly when you need one or the other.

In the long run it’s expensive to spend too much time in the sympathetic mode, but that energy, if measured skillfully, controlled and directed, is the driving force behind our motivation, excitement, courage and personal power.

 

So how does this present itself in the course?

By dividing it into 2 parts:

The Moon – code for the mind.

In the first 4 weeks, we explore our parasympathetic nervous system, our relaxed state, through the poses, breathwork and meditation. Here we will work mostly with forward folds, twists and long exhales to explore how these steer the nervous system towards the calm state, giving the body space to process our experiences and heal from our past.

 

The Sun – code for energy.

In the final 4 weeks, we explore through the poses, breathwork and meditation our sympathetic nervous system. Not the stressed and survival state, rather the energizing, activating and empowering one. And here we will work mostly with backbends, laterals and long inhales, to explore how it feels when the body is fully charged, vibrant and alive.
